Theater performance, new exhibit coming up

We are at the end of June here at the Columbus Area Arts Council and what a fun and exciting month it has been. This week is the end of Art Camp for 2017 and we want to thank Mrs. Graybill for her dedication and preparation each week and for the children who have participated.

We also had a wonderful response to the 2017 Artful Home Tour this year. With approximately 136 people joining us we enjoyed an evening of strolling through the beautiful homes and tasting wine and chocolate while looking at artwork. All of the organizing and making plans came together for a great time.

Thanks to our 2017 Artful Home Tour homeowners this year: Ross and Emily Mach, Craig and Amy Williams, Neil and Kim Schumacher, Bryce and Sheryl Sands and Tim and Carla Hottovy. Thanks to our artists for helping out by sharing their artwork with us: Bob Trautwein, Marilyn Lamb, Rod Supencheck, Paula Hottovy and Nancy Shadle.

In my last article I highlighted the schedule and programs that are taking place in July, but I want to share more details as they are just around the corner.

The Missoula Theatre will be here in Columbus from July 17-22. The Arts Gallery is featuring the Sammy Lynn and Clyde Ericson art exhibit starting July 5 with a reception on Saturday, July 15, from 2-4 p.m.

The Arts Council would like to welcome artist Clyde Ericson to the Columbus community. Clyde is a graduate of Concordia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in education specializing in K-12 art. He will be teaching art at Scotus Central Catholic. Clyde grew up in Osceola. We are very pleased to have Clyde’s exhibit of his sculptures in the Columbus Art Gallery.

The Arts Council is excited to bring to you batik artist Sammy Lynn from Glenvil, who has exhibited all across the country. Her work is featured in many private collections as well as the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney. As an active American National Arts Council member, Sammy has received many awards for her batiks. “For me, creative energy is a chain reaction that happens most often when working in the studio. Working on an idea opens the door to more ideas, and problems to solve.”

Have a great Fourth of July everyone. We truly have a wonderful country and have much to celebrate as we reflect on the home of the free and the brave. If you have the opportunity, fly your American flag as we celebrate this year.
